Technology Logistics

Libby and I set up a meeting with Oliver Blair (technician for spatial design) and talked to him about how we could execute our idea. He was excited by the concept and having kids of his own thought it would definitely be a successful way to help children learn.

He didn't see any issues with how we would be able to create the space as every thing was definitely possible, however he said we should try and talk to one of the guys at the toy store as they know more about it then he does. Therefore Libby and I visited the toy store and talked to one of the guys there for a wee while about our idea. He said it was definitely possible and the only obstacle would be finding the money to fund the project as we would be working with high tech gear that is not cheap. He said the tricaster would be the most important element as this is the machine that overlays different inputs onto each other in a live situation (such as the news how text or weather patterns can be placed over whoever is speaking live). He gave us some companies to contact in regards to hiring equipment which help us come up with a potential budget scheme. The tricaster was the hardest thing to get hold of - we contacted protel and rubber monkey both of which didn't rent one out. However we were given Albert's personal email off Ken from protel. We emailed him and asked what he could potentially do for us as he apparently had one just lying around that was unused. Unfortunately Albert never responded to our's or Ken's email which was frustrating as this would of hopefully been a cheap alternative (and possibly free if we explained the project???) We did find a tricaster on trade me for $4000 which was very cheap considering they are $72,000 to purchase brand new.

I researched into companies overseas to get an estimated gage on how much it would cost and it was approximately $1000 per day (rent of equipment and technician).

Therefore it would be cheaper to purchase the second hand one of to hustle with Albert.

He also mentioned that we could use an application, although this wouldn't be as professional or high quality as the tricaster it is a cheaper alternative.

What we would need:

In the main space:
Green screen and stand
Camera
Large screen
Im the technicians booth:
Monitor
Tricaster
key board
Speakers
2 computer screens
